About Event

Designed by the Hrant Dink Foundation, the Democracy City Workshop is a role-playing game where participants build their own cities using democratic methods. In this workshop, participants are divided into small groups to determine strategies and develop a program for founding a city. Based on their identified priority areas, each group negotiates with others to select architectural and structural models to construct their city. This workshop was developed in collaboration with the BELvue Museum in Belgium, which hosts numerous rights-based learning programs.

The workshop aims to bring together groups with diverse priorities, encouraging them to advocate for their views, engage in dialogue with others, and create a collective city model. Throughout this process, participants will discuss not only "what kind of city they want" but also the specific values and rights upon which this city should be built.

By utilizing a role-playing format where participants design their own cities through democratic methods, the Democracy City Workshop aims to develop skills in rights-based thinking, collective decision-making, and negotiation.

The workshop expects participants to adopt a rights-based approach and experience democratic, collective decision-making processes; manage disagreements through dialogue-based negotiation; strengthen a culture of consensus and develop the practice of sharing responsibility in common living spaces; increase the capacity to generate collaborative solutions from different perspectives; and contribute to the expansion of a pluralistic culture that encourages democratic participation.
