About Event

Social work is a political discipline and profession founded on human rights. Social workers engage with individuals and groups who have been exposed to traumatic experiences, including war, internal conflict, forced migration, displacement, and severe human rights violations. As rights advocates, professionals in this field undertake critical roles in establishing social peace through areas such as conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and the provision of psychosocial support to victims and survivors. This workshop, to be conducted by the Diyarbakır Branch of the Association of Social Workers (SHUDER), aims to open discussion on the roles and responsibilities that social workers can undertake during and after the process following political conflicts in the country. In this context, the workshop's main discussion topics include the establishment of social justice, psychosocial support mechanisms for conflict victims, rehabilitation, advocacy, and empowerment practices. Furthermore, drawing on experiences from similar countries around the world, particularly Northern Ireland and Palestine, discussions and recommendations regarding the potential contributions of social workers to post-conflict peacebuilding, specifically in relation to the Kurdish issue, will be among the key outcomes of the workshop.
