Ecological Nutrition and the Formation of Healthy Eating Habits in Children

Ecological Nutrition and the Formation of Healthy Eating Habits in Children
Workshops

About Event

This workshop is designed for teachers, employees of local government education and social services units, and all individuals who have direct contact with children. Our main goal is to create an awareness base that will support children in developing healthy and ecological eating habits at an early age and to strengthen their food literacy skills.

Today, children's nutritional choices are largely shaped by ready-made and packaged foods and advertising strategies. Often presented with misleading labels such as "natural," "fit," or "healthy," the contents of these products pose serious risks to children's health and also highlight societal inequalities in access to healthy food.

What are the goals of the workshop?

Food Literacy: To increase participants' ability to correctly analyze food labels.

Ecological Approach: To understand nutrition not just as an act of consumption, but as a living space interwoven with nature, labor, and production processes.

Dissemination: To ensure that this awareness reaches schools, families, and communities at the neighborhood level through teachers and local government employees.

This workshop focuses on early childhood habits, which are the foundation of public health, going beyond individual health. This workshop, built on a foundation of participatory, inclusive, and critical dialogue, aims to strengthen social solidarity through the sharing of experiences.

At the end of the workshop, a short “Ecological Nutrition and Food Guide” will be created in collaboration with the participants. This guide will include practical information on how to read basic information on food labels, how to identify misleading marketing statements, and how to make healthy food choices. The aim is for this guide to be a resource that can be used by teachers, local government staff, and others working with children in educational settings and community work.

In addition, a “Guide to Ecological Nutrition Studies with Children” will be prepared. This guide will include examples of simple and applicable activities that can be done with children, such as label review, identifying seasonal foods, choosing healthy snacks, and establishing an ecological relationship with food. Participants will be able to easily implement this model in their own institutions. Another important outcome of the workshop is the creation of a communication network among participants who work on ecological nutrition and children's right to healthy nutrition. The aim of this network is to support the sharing of experiences among teachers, local government staff, and those working with children, to disseminate best practices, and to create a foundation of solidarity that can develop collaborative work on healthy and ecological nutrition in local communities.
