Designed by director and actor Aram Dildar and comedian Guli Yakan, this workshop draws inspiration from Umberto Eco's novel The Name of the Rose to approach humour as a mode of thinking and a space for freedom. The aim is for participants to develop critical thought, creative expression, and the ability to view the world from different perspectives through humour.
Humour is not merely a tool for entertainment; it is a creative practice of freedom that stands against power, dogma and fear. As Eco emphasises, the act of laughter breaks through rigid patterns of thought, opens a door to reinterpret reality, and gives the individual the courage to see the world from another angle. With this understanding, the workshop offers a space for intellectual exercise that nurtures participants' imagination, critical intuition and power of free expression.
At the end of the workshop, participants will perform short stand-up routines prepared from their own observations and experiences. This performance transforms the intellectual gains developed throughout the workshop into a tangible creative output. Participants not only discuss humour theoretically but also experience it as a living and transformative form of expression on stage. Following this three-day workshop, the stand-up performance with the participants on May 15th will carry the workshop's creative and intellectual accumulation into authentic practice, providing participants with self-confidence and the courage to express themselves.
