Sînebîr presents a selection of films and documentaries, aiming to make visible the human rights violations of the recent past and to build a collective memory, bringing them together with the audience alongside the directors and cast. The event, which will take place between May 13-15, 2026, will feature seven films centered on the concepts of justice and reckoning with the past. As part of the program, on May 13, YİBO and Dargeçit; on May 14, Bîr, Vartinîs, and Yerli Yurtsuz; and on May 15, Hey Hawar and Görünür Görünmez Bir Otosansür Antolojisi will meet with cinephiles.
Directed by Rıza Oylum, Yerli Yurtsuz focuses on the search for identity and roots in Turkey and Armenia of Yervant Demirci, an Armenian iron master born in the Derik district of Mardin. Demirci's journey, which begins with Kurdish and continues with Turkish, follows the traces of his ancestors by learning Armenian; it takes shape in Derik, Istanbul, Ayntap, and Yerevan. The documentary reveals, amidst historical and political textures, the sincere connections established between the past and present despite linguistic and cultural barriers.
Following the film screenings, discussions held with the participation of the directors invite audiences to become a part of the testimonies and memory records addressed in the films. These discussions aim to create a dialogue between the narrative of the films and the experiences of the audience, contributing to the construction and continuity of collective memory. Through films and discussions, the event aims to contribute to confronting the past, keeping testimonies alive, and building social peace.
