Selen received her PhD in Contemporary Turkish History from Boğaziçi University. A founding partner of SOM Research, she has been supporting civil society, academia, and the private sector in the development, management, and coordination of European Union (EU) funded projects since 2004. Parallel to her work in the EU field, since 2002 she has managed and implemented numerous cultural projects in collaboration with leading cultural and artistic institutions in Turkey and Europe, ranging from photography and contemporary dance to theatre and industrial design. She currently teaches Turkish Republic History at Boğaziçi University and manages the Ortaklaşa project (ortaklasa.iksv.org) run by the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation (İKSV).
