About Event

This workshop, organized by KASED, is organized with the aim of defining the conceptual framework of cultural violence, analyzing its forms of production in everyday life and at the institutional level, and making visible the multilayered effects of this type of violence on peoples. Focusing specifically on forms of cultural violence operating against Kurds, the workshop will critically discuss practices of exclusion, denial, and assimilation in the areas of language, memory, art, and cultural production, while also addressing the role of cultures of resistance developed against cultural violence in building a multicultural social structure, as well as the contributions of cultural and artistic productions to social peace, a shared culture of coexistence, and the democratic public sphere. The workshop will also discuss the responsibilities of local governments in the face of cultural violence and their possibilities for restructuring cultural policies on an egalitarian, inclusive, and pluralistic basis. In these respects, the workshop directly aligns with the goals of the Social Peace and Freedom Forum to strengthen dialogue between peoples, defend cultural rights, and promote a libertarian perspective of coexistence, and it aims to provide both theoretical and practical contributions to the Forum's mission of cultural pluralism and peacebuilding. As an outcome of the workshop, it is aimed to develop actionable recommendations for institutions, artists, and local governments against cultural violence; a framework to strengthen egalitarian and pluralistic production practices in the field of culture and arts; a model for solidarity mechanisms based on multilingualism and cultural rights; and policy proposals for local governments to reshape their cultural policies in ways that support social peace.
