Is it possible to establish societal reconciliation and peace without constitutional guarantees? What kinds of risks does societal reconciliation and peace face despite constitutional guarantees?
This panel, while seeking answers to these two fundamental questions, will open for discussion the role of the constitution in the construction of peace, the principle of the rule of law, and the basic dynamics of social consensus.
The legal dimensions of peace will be examined from the perspectives of constitutional law, human rights, conflict resolution, and gender equality; the relationship between formal law and social expectations, the institutional and epistemic limits of reconciliation, as well as the structural contribution of a pluralist and inclusive constitution to social peace and individual and collective freedoms will be addressed.
